Vegasfirebrand's "Words"
The object of the exercise is that someone - in this case the incredible vegasfirebrand - tells you, in their LJ, 5 words that they think describe you and then you have to talk about why in your own LJ
1. Integrity: Considering my profession I'm not sure this can ever apply. But like unto Dr. Suess' Horton the Elephant, I mean what I say and I say what mean.
2. Service: My raison d'etre. While it is one of the facts of life that everyone is serving one way or another, just as it is a fact of life that everything we do - including service - is a trade-off of something given for something gotten, I see service as an end in itself as what I do to justify breathing up all that air. It's how I've always viewed myself, as one who takes care of, and would take care of, others in my realm of influence. The example I give to those who don't know how people such as vegasfirebrand and I function is that, since I was 3 years old, I didn't want to be Roy Rogers I wanted to be Pat Brady, I didn't want to be the Lone Ranger I wanted to be Tonto.
3. Adoration: Not sure how this applies. I certainly don't inspire adoration. Now, doubtless at this point some well-meaning young woman will say, "oh yes you're adorable" but note that any such woman is not required to actually put up with me in her life on a consistent basis.
4. Affectionate: Interesting choice here, as I think I'm very affectionate but I would have said most people don't think I am but rather think I'm reserved (and I'm sure it's no coincidence at all that word was also applied in this exercise). I'm not frantic about my personal space, I don't feel threatened if someone is physically close to me, and I like it if it's someone I like; even just to go to sleep if I'm with someone I like I'm as happy in a single bed as a larger bed. I like touching and being touched.
5. Reserved: I'm extremely shy, coupled with not necessarily having the same interests as most people I meet so I have literally nothing to discuss with them. I will spend an evening in a room full of people and never say a word - not because I don't like them or can't think of anything to say but because I have no sense that they want to talk to me about anything.
